This magical item is a cube of translucent glass that allows the owner to create a wall of protective force in a 10x10x10 cube around himself that moves around so long as charges remain. The cube replenishes all 36 charges with each sunrise. Charges are expended at different rates depending on the type of protection chosen or when damage is done to the cube.
The operator points one of the six faces towards the sun to activate the type of protective force according to the following table. Charges drain from the cube in increments of one minute. And while the cube is active, the holder’s speed of movement (by any means) is limited.
Face | Charge/Minute | Max Speed | Blocks |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 30′ | Gasses, wind, etc |
2 | 2 | 20′ | Non-living matter |
3 | 3 | 15′ | Living matter |
4 | 4 | 10′ | Magic |
5 | 6 | 10′ | Everything |
6 | 0 | Normal | Nothing |
Any damage blocked by the cube that exceeds 30 drains the charges at a rate of 1 charge for every 10 points of damage. That is, with face 2 active, a hurled boulder doing 35 points of damage will drain one charge to cover the excess 5 damage. Additionally, certain spells drain charges directly, as listed in the table below.
Attack | Charges |
---|---|
Horn of blasting | 6 |
Wall of fire | 2 |
Passwall | 3 |
Disintegrate | 6 |
Phase door | 5 |
Prismatic spray | 7 |
Catapult-like missiles | 1 |
Very hot normal fire | 2 |
Fireball | 3 |
Lightning Bolt | 4 |
